It is involved in energy metabolism, neuronal cell development, and bodypattern formation. GSK3B participates in the Wnt signaling pathway, and it may be required for earlyembryo development and neuron differentiation. Polymorphisms in this gene have been implicated inmodifying risk of Parkinson disease, and studies in mice show that overexpression of this gene maybe relevant to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer disease.
