Description | Rabbit polyclonal to HOXA9.In vertebrates, the genes encoding the class of transcription factors called homeobox genes are foundin clusters named A, B, C, and D on four separate chromosomes. Expression of these proteins isspatially and temporally regulated during embryonic development. HOXA9 is part of the A cluster onchromosome 7 and encodes a sequence-specific DNA-binding transcription factor which is part of adevelopmental regulatory system that provides cells with specific positional identities on the anteriorposterioraxis. HOXA9 is highly similar to the abdominal-B (Abd-B) gene of Drosophila. A specifictranslocation event which causes a fusion between HOXA9 and NUP98 has been associated withmyeloid leukemogenesis. |
