Rabbit polyclonal to FZD8.Frizzled-8 (FZD8) is a receptor for Wnt proteins, which belongs to the G-protein coupled receptorFz/Smo family. FZD8 is a component of the Wnt-Fzd-LRP5-LRP6 complex that triggers beta-cateninsignaling through inducing aggregation of receptor-ligand complexes into ribosome-sizedsignalosomes. The beta-catenin canonical signaling pathway leads to the activation of disheveledproteins, inhibition of GSK-3 kinase, nuclear accumulation of beta-catenin and activation of Wnt targetgenes. A second signaling pathway involving PKC and calcium fluxes has been seen for some familymembers. FZD8 may be involved in transduction and intercellular transmission of polarity informationduring tissue morphogenesis and/or in differentiated tissues.
