Capsiate is a non-pungent analogue of capsaicin with a similar biological profile. It has a role as an anti-allergic agent, a plant metabolite, an antioxidant, an angiogenesis inhibitor, a hypoglycemic agent, an anti-inflammatory agent and a capsaicin receptor agonist.

Bioactivity

In Vivo
Capsiate does not exhibit irritancy-related effects on the oral cavity or eye. Capsiate (0.03~0.54 mM; s. c.) induces nociceptive responses in mice. Animal model: Male ddY-strain mice (20–24 g). Dosage: 0.5 or 5 mM. Administration: p.o. Result: Did not cause pungency-related behaviors.
In Vitro
Capsiate evokes current responses in HEK293 cells expressing TRPV1.
