PI3K-001 is a cathepsin B-responsive prodrug and antifibrotic agent. In fibrotic lung lesions, it undergoes cleavage by cathepsin B at the Val-Ala linker, releasing an active PI3K inhibitor payload, while remaining stable in healthy tissue. PI3K-001 can enhance collagen deposition, tissue collapse, and alveolar damage in fibrotic lung tissue, making it useful for pulmonary fibrosis research.
