It is the primary regulator of eosinopoiesis as well as eosinophil maturation andactivation. Elevated levels of IL5 are linked to asthma and hypereosinophilic syndromes. Thereceptor for IL5 is composed of a heterodimer, with the beta subunit capable of also binding to IL3and colony stimulating factor 2.
