Bioactivity

• In Vivo:
  DMHCA was able to restore cholesterol homeostasis in the diabetic retina by oral administration of 8 mg/kg/day for 6 months. In diabetic retina, DMHCA significantly increased the levels of endogenous LXR ligand, norethisterol and total oxidized sterols.
• In Vitro:
  Treatment of diabetic CD34+ cells with 10 μM DMHCA restored cell membrane fluidity to non-diabetic baseline levels. DMHCA restored bone marrow-derived TNF-α and IL-3 levels to baseline and significantly reduced CCL-2 production in bone marrow supernatant and systemic circulation. In addition, DMHCA increased the number of circulating vascular progenitor cells (CACs) in the bone marrow and peripheral circulation and facilitated the migration of vascular repair cells into the peripheral circulation.
