Cisapride tartrate is a selective serotonin 5-HT4 receptor agonist, chemically related to metoclopramide but lacking central antidopaminergic effects. It was formerly used for nocturnal GERD but was withdrawn due to serious cardiac arrhythmias. It remains a research tool for studying gastrointestinal motility disorders, including in vitro receptor studies and in vivo models of megaesophagus and megacolon.
