Description

Bevirimat (PA-457) is a first-in-class maturation inhibitor that specifically targets HIV-1 by blocking the proteolytic cleavage of the CA-SP1 Gag precursor, thereby preventing the formation of mature CA protein and inhibiting viral infectivity. This mechanism has been validated in both in vitro antiviral assays and in vivo studies using SCID-hu mouse models, supporting its role as a key research tool for investigating late-stage HIV replication.
