Artecanin is an inhibitor of the SARS-CoV-2 main protease (Mpro), characterized by predicted high gastrointestinal absorption and oral bioavailability, without anticipated hepatotoxicity, carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, or cytotoxicity. It interacts with key amino acid residues His41 and Cys145 at the Mpro active site, preventing viral precursor protein cleavage and maturation by forming a stable complex with Mpro, thereby blocking SARS-CoV-2 invasion.
