It is a transmembrane protein that mediates the function of neuropeptide Y (NPY), a neurotransmitter, and peptide YY (PYY), a gastrointestinal hormone. Activation of Y1 receptors may result in mobilization of intracellular calcium and inhibition of adenylate cyclase activity.
