ET-1, ET-2, and ET-3 are the products of three distinct endothelin genes. ET-2 and ET-3 are similar to ET-1, but differ in two and six amino acids, respectively. All three isopeptides produce strong in vitro vasoconstrictor and in vivo pressor responses. However, the quantitative profiles of their pharmacological activities vary greatly.
