Integrin α6β4 is a key laminin receptor predominantly found in stratified squamous epithelia, especially localized to hemidesmosomes in the basal epidermal layer, where it plays a crucial role in cell-basement membrane adhesion, regulation of keratinocyte motility and polarity, and contributes to the structure of hemidesmosomal plaques, distinguishing it from other integrins.

Subunit ITGA6 is fused with flag tag at the C-terminus and subunit ITGB4 contains no tag. The protein migrates as 110-130 kDa (ITGA6) and 90-95 kDa (ITGB4) when calibrated against Star Ribbon Pre-stained Protein Marker under reducing (R) condition (SDS-PAGE) due to glycosylation.
