11-cis Retinal

SKU: orb1692201

Description

11-cis Retinal is the chromophore that binds opsin to form inactive rhodopsin. Its light-induced isomerization to all-trans retinal initiates phototransduction, the basis of vision. This compound is used in vision research, including studies of congenital blindness and carotenoid deficiency, and to investigate rhodopsin activation mechanisms in vitro and in vivo.
