• Background: RsAFP2, or raphanus sativus antifungal peptide 2, is an an antifungal plant defensin isolated from seeds of the radish, raphanus sativus, which interacts with glucosylceramides (GlcCer) in the membranes of susceptible yeast and fungi to induce membrane permeabilization and fungal cell death. RsAFP2 is active against Candida albicans and inhibits to a lesser extent other Candida species, and is nontoxic to mammalian cells. In animal models, RsAFP2 is prophylactically effective against murine candidiasis.
