Rabbit polyclonal to PRDM16.PR domain containing 16 (PRDM16) is a zinc finger transcription factor that binds to DNA andfunctions as a transcriptional regulator. It functions in the differentiation of brown adipose tissuewhich is specialized in dissipating chemical energy in the form of heat in response to cold or excessfeeding while white adipose tissue is specialized in storage of excess energy and the control ofsystemic metabolism. PRDM16 along with CEBPB regulate the differentiation of myoblasticprecursors into brown adipose cells. This gene has been implicated in a translocation event thatoccurs in a subset of acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome.
