Rabbit polyclonal to MMP16.Matrix metalloproteinase-16 (MMP16) is a single-pass type I membrane protein that belongs to thepeptidase M10A family. It is an endopeptidase that degrades various components of the extracellularmatrix, such as collagen type III and fibronectin, while it has no effect on type I, II, IV and V collagen.MMP16 is involved in the matrix remodeling of blood vessels. MMPs play a central role in cellproliferation, migration, differentiation, angiogenesis, apoptosis and host defences. Dysregulatoin ofMMPs has been implicated in many diseases including arthritis, chronic ulcers, encephalomyelitis andcancer.
