Background | Angiotensin (1-7) is an endogenous peptide fragment and key component of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). It is created from the conversion of angiotensin II (Ang II) into angiotensin (1-7) by angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and acts through activation of the non-AT1, non-AT2 receptor Mas. There are numerous examples of the effects of angiotensin (1-7) in the cardiovascular system where it counteracts the vasoconstrictive and proliferative effects of angiotensin II and also stimulates vasopressin release in vivo. |
