It is a receptorfor a number of different molecules including the ambloidogenic form of serum amyloid A, amyloidbetaprotein, members of the S100/calgranulin superfamily and advanced glycation end products. Itacts as mediator of both acute and chronic vascular inflammation in conditions such asatherosclerosis and in particular as a complication of diabetes. Alternative splicing yields twotranscript variants encoding different isoforms.
