Description | Rabbit polyclonal to USP9X. Probable ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase FAF-X (USP9X) is a member of the peptidase C19 family similar to ubiquitin-specific proteases. Though the USP9X gene is located on the X chromosome, it escapes X-inactivation. USP9X is a deubiquitinase involved both in the processing of ubiquitin precursors and of ubiquitinated proteins; therefore, USP9X may play an important regulatory role at the level of protein turnover by preventing degradation of proteins through the removal of conjugated ubiquitin. USP9X is an essential component of the TGF-beta/BMP signaling cascade. USP9X also regulates chromosome alignment and segregation in mitosis by regulating the localization of BIRC5/survivin to mitotic centromeres. USP9X specifically hydrolyzes both Lys-29-and Lys-33-linked polyubiquitins chains, and specifically deubiquitinates monoubiquitinated SMAD4, opposing the activity of E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase TRIM33. Mutations in USP9X have been associated with Turner syndrome. |
